The V4SDG Budapest Sustainability Exchange event will be postponed as previously announced, to September 23-24 due to the current situation.
Meanwhile, in order to understand the impacts of the pandemic, they are organizing an online Talk Series about the interlinkages between COVID-19 and sustainability throughout months of May and June 2020.
How can we best respond to the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic while respecting sustainability efforts? How can we transform lessons learned into future best practices? Is it possible at all to prevent such global challenges?
The speakers of the Talk Series will cover the three main pillars of sustainability - environmental, social and economic - and the fourth session will be a closing debate to open the floor for questions and discussions.
Please find below the dates, some guiding questions of the events.
Session 1 - Thursday, 21 May - Environmental impacts
Speaker: László Pintér - Head of Department - Environmental Sciences and Policy - CEU
Guiding questions: Is COVID-19 really a relief for nature? How much truth lies in the claims arguing for an environmentally beneficial outcome of the pandemic? Could a rapid restart of our economies backlash on the environment?
Session 2 - Thursday, 4 June - Social impacts
Speaker: dr hab. Marta Smagacz-Poziemska - Associate Professor - Institute of Sociology of the Jagiellonian University (TBC)
Guiding questions: What effects does the pandemic have on growing inequalities? How are lockdows affecting our mental health? How can governments transform social policies to ensure that noone if left behind?
Session 3 - Thursday, 18 June - Economic impacts
Speaker: Ákos Lukács - Senior Manager - Environment, Sustainability, Climate Change at Deloitte (TBC)
Guiding questions: How will this crisis reshape the world economy from the local to the global level? How will government intervention in national economies change in the post pandemic world? Is it possible to align economic recovery with ecology in order to achieve carbon neutrality?
Session 4 - Wednesday, 24 June - Debate
Interactive sessions with all three speakers of the previous sessions
